101 Things in 1001 Days
Have you heard of the 101 Things in 1001 Days challenge? My dear friend, Yelena, told me about it back when we were living in NYC. Essentially, it’s a bucket list with a unique time frame: 1,001 days. In other words, you don’t have your entire life to complete your goals, but you don’t have to squeeze everything into a year, either.
I love the act of setting goals and starting fresh, so I started a list this year. Coming up with 101 goals was surprisingly a lot harder than I thought it’d be. I knew it’d be important to add goals that could be easily accomplished (e.g. leave a kind note in a library book), as well as bigger dreams that would require some stretching (e.g. buy a house). It took me a few months, on and off, but I finally finished! Since 2019 is around the corner, I figured I’d share my list a bit early. See my 101 goals below:
Isabelle’s 101 Things in 1,001 Days
Start Date: December 12, 2018. || End Date: September 8, 2021
Take a solo trip.
Transition to a vegan diet.
Get involved in a community service project. (Community Bucket, I’m looking at you!)
Go on a cross country road trip.
Leave a kind note in a library book.
Visit Cape Verde & learn more about family history.
Go skinny dipping midday.
Take a month-long hiatus from social media.
Learn to sew + make something usable.
Have a picnic.
Host a brunch & mystery book exchange party.
Eat vegetarian for a month.
Take photos on camera only for a month. (Yes, that means no iPhone!)
Read 200 books. (Keep up with this goal on GoodReads!)
Make a collage.
Visit Portugal again.
Buy a house. (This is a big one!)
Finish the first draft of my book.
Take a cello lesson.
Learn a cool nail art design.
Participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month).
Live in a different country for at least 2 months.
Run a half marathon.
Get past your fear of swimming.
Go camping at the Grand Canyon.
Stretch for 5 minutes every day for 1 month.
Creatively ice a cake or cupcakes. (Sunflower cupcakes?)
Try a new food.
Stay overnight in a treehouse. (The Hostel in the Forest sounds so lovely.)
Start a book club. | Anyone interested in joining?
Leave a 100% tip.
Submit a piece to a magazine.
Stay up & watch the sun rise.
Swim in the ocean at night.
Attend a free seminar.
Visit 5 new cities.
Make a family recipe book.
Visit Bali, Indonesia.
Put away $10 for every completed goal.
Go berry picking and make jam.
Spend an entire evening by candlelight.
Send a handwritten letter to a friend.
Fly a kite.
Keep a gratitude journal for one month.
Repurpose a piece of furniture.
Visit the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
Go rock climbing.
Successfully complete a no-spend month.
Volunteer at an animal shelter for a day.
Take a calligraphy class.
Hike up Stone Mountain.
Give a loved one a “just because” gift.
Sing karaoke at a bar.
Bake bread from scratch.
Make a painting.
Don’t complain about anything for a week.
Have a Philly cheesesteak in Philly.
Take a hot yoga class.
Write a haiku every day for a week.
Have bubble tea.
Knit a scarf.
Make a fire in the fireplace.
Make a meal entirely out of food bought from the farmer’s market.
Buy yourself flowers.
Complete a puzzle.
Watch 5 documentaries.
Take a spin class at Vibe Ride.
Go to a flea market.
Treat your parents to dinner.
Go to a concert.
Make a blanket & pillow fort.
Throw a surprise party.
Eat at a restaurant alone (no phone, book, etc.)
Make homemade pasta.
Take a dance class. (This is SO far outside of my comfort zone!)
Buy another 3 plants.
Read the Bible every day for a month.
Grow a vegetable & harvest it.
Plant sunflowers in Dad’s backyard.
Take a floral arrangement class (even if just on YouTube).
Pay off at least 50% of student loan debt.
Learn how to hula hoop.
Learn how to do a cartwheel.
Spend a whole day at the movie theater.
Develop a roll of film.
Spend the day at a theme park.
Print and frame family photos.
Take portraits in a photo booth. (Yes, alone).
Improve flexibility enough to touch your toes & comfortably sit criss-cross applesauce. (Yes, I can’t do either of those things right now. Yes, I know.)
Buy an RV. (I’ve been daydreaming about an RV named The Hummingbird & taking her out for weekend trips. I’m making it happen.)
Take a cooking class.
Drink only water for 30 days.
Swing in a hammock.
Get a full body massage.
Get a facial.
Bake a dessert you’ve never made from scratch.
Record, edit and publish a video.
Make another 101 Things in 1001 Days list.
