We Moved to Santa Fe, NM! (Temporarily!)

As you may have seen on Instagram by now, in mid-July, my husband, Jeremiah, and I temporarily relocated to Santa Fe, New Mexico! For those thinking, “What the hell? Since when? Wasn’t your trifling ass just in Mexico? Didn’t you just buy a house in Atlanta?” all I can say is, when the universe puts a dream opportunity in your lap, you don’t pass it up.

To make a long story short, Jeremiah was hired onto a really cool TV show — a 1970s crime thriller that follows a Navajo Nation reservation police officer as he investigates local crimes. It’s being put on by AMC TV (the same folks who did Breaking Bad!). Jeremiah learned that he was hired on the show less than 2 weeks before he was to start. We packed up our house in Atlanta, rented it out (fully furnished, thank God, or I would’ve probably died from the stress), and made the 20+ hour trip here. As for teaching, I spoke with my principal about the job offer and eventually resigned (with the guarantee of a position held for next school year — what a blessing!!) The show is from July through November 2021, so we’re calling Santa Fe home for a bit!

Unfortunately, it gets even more bananas — when we pulled up to our Santa Fe rental home…the real tenant opened the door. We’d paid a security deposit and first month’s rent — $3,000 — and realized, all at once, that we’d been scammed. We cried (okay, maybe just me), and filed a theft claim with the bank and a police report. The next morning, poor Jeremiah had to go right into work so I spent the next few days searching desperately for a home for the next 4 months.

At first, I was incredibly anxious, angry, and upset. Then I paused. Wait…we’re alive…and healthy…and we didn’t share any serious (SSN, etc.) personal information with the scammer…and we had the means to stay afloat…and we all had each other. Of all the emotions I could’ve been feeling, I realized that I was GRATEFUL. As soon as my attitude changed, the universe provided. A family friend let us stay in her home free of charge, we found THREE viable apartment options & officially signed a lease for one in a BETTER location than the scam apartment! On top of that, in our first 2 weeks here, we’ve made friends, explored the farmer’s market & downtown square, and snuggled and smooched under the clear stars every night.

Listen, the universe/God/Higher Power/Life Source/whatever you want to call it is GOOD! We are blessed! And despite the rocky start, we’re so excited for this new adventure.

Check out our road trip pictures!

Tell me, have you ever been to Santa Fe, NM? Would you ever move to a new state/city for 4 months or are we we nuts? xx
